Chimney
A chimney channels warmth, carries smoke outside, and connects the private domestic interior with the open sky above.
Psychological reading
Architecturally, a chimney is a vent. It allows warmth to exist safely inside without suffocating the inhabitants with smoke. In dreams, an open, working chimney can symbolise healthy emotional ventilation, letting toxic fumes, anger, or pent-up pressure disperse into the air. A blocked chimney, by contrast, may point to suppressed emotions that threaten to choke the domestic sphere, while a hearth fire rising freely suggests comfort, vitality, and balance.
Cultural reading
Folklore connects chimneys with spirit passageways, from Santa Claus to house fairies and witches entering dwellings. The chimney sweep in British and European folklore is traditionally considered an omen of good fortune and cleansing.
